soulmate

we go our lives with our ears open, eyes closed, mouth shut

one day we will open them and see for ourselves, the truth we’ve chased

fists strike- we must be what they’ve taught us to become

yet taunting words of our predecessors never free us of our deepest fears,

to become the one we most abhor- do their lips encourage or rebuke?

how can sun leave the light of day, were they not supposed to shelter us

lost in this maze, no guidance, just judging hands thrown my way

cruel biting winds teach us to walk blind, darling our skin is rough, hearts cold.
but one day it will all be worth it. i promise. when you just can’t stand anymore
I will find your hand and lock it into mine- we will stand, believe in that day.
